North East

Challenging times lie ahead in 2009 but I believe that Scottish farmers are amongst the most resourceful, flexible and determined business folk around.
The credit crunch and low returns from the arable marketplace, as well as the potential decrease in retail prices for our beef, lamb and pork sectors will surely take their toll on all of us. However, we are all in this together, and NFUS can pull resources and lobby for reduced legislation, clearer food labelling, fairer returns and a more level playing field.
To help us achieve this we need to hear your voice, as every member’s opinion counts. We also each need to educate our consumers and highlight how our efficient and responsible farming practices allow them to enjoy living in and visiting our beautiful countryside which provides them with the highest quality foods. Who knows, some of them may even consider entering the industry themselves – we all recognise the need for fresh blood in our industry!
