South-west livestock farmer, Andy Nelson is celebrating after securing the use of a brand new tractor for the next five months, following NFU Scotland’s annual membership draw.

The result of the draw, announced at the Union’s AGM and annual dinner in St Andrews yesterday (Thursday, 18 February), will see the 175 horsepower Claas Arion 640 Cebis tractor delivered to the Nelson family farm at Cogarth, Parton near Castle Douglas.

The draw is designed to encourage members to pay their annual membership promptly and all NFUS members paid up by 31st January 2010 gained free entry to the draw.

On picking up the keys, a delighted Andy Nelson said:

“This is a fantastic piece of news and the use of the tractor over the coming months is going to make a real difference to our business.

“We were already contemplating hiring in a tractor from our local Claas dealer to help us complete all our spring work in good time.  When the call came through from our local secretary, Michael Coutts, to tell us that we had won the membership draw and would have a brand new Claas tractor to help with the workload we couldn’t believe our luck.”

Jeremy Wiggins, National Sales Manager of Claas said:

“We are highly delighted that Andy Nelson will be using an Arion 640 Cebis for the next five months and we hope it will prove to be an asset to his business.”
