Free Legal, Tenancy Issues and Taxation Helplines for Members

NFUS offers two free helplines for members.  The NFUS Legal and Tenancy Issues Helpline provides basic legal guidance for members over the telephone from legal executives.   The NFUS Taxation Helpline is an exclusive free telephone consultation on taxation matters.

About the NFUS Legal and Tenancy Issues Helpline

Basic legal guidance is available over the telephone from legal executives. The range of matters covered by the Helpline will include:-

  • Agricultural Law
  • Employment Law
  • Courts, Tribunals and Disputes
  • Commercial Contracts/Sale of Goods
  • Landlord & Tenant
  • Planning & Environment
  • Land ownership/Access & Related Issues
  • Wills & Succession

Simply telephone 0131 271 8585.  The advice is FREE (calls will be charged at normal rates).  Conversations should last a maximum of 20 minutes.  Where more complicated or specialist issues arise, it may be necessary after initial discussion for the Helpline staff to do some research and telephone you back.

Remember:

  • Members must provide their NFUS membership number.
  • To make most of the time available, Members should be ready with a concise summary of the issue and the questions which they may wish to ask.
  • Advice is available between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
  • Members should contact the Helpline personally and not via a member of NFUS staff.
  • Advice is given by telephone only. Written advice cannot be given and documents cannot be considered as part of this free service.
  • Where full advice cannot be given immediately, or the enquiry falls outwith the scope of the Helpline, the Helpline staff will wherever possible advise members where best to obtain such advice.
  • Email enquiries quoting membership number will be dealt with as above, but the response may be by email or telephone.

If you need more help you have the option of:

  • Consulting your own solicitor, or;
  • You may request the specialist team at Gillespie Macandrew to provide further advice or legal services which would then be on a fee paying basis.
