Webinar 1pm to 2pm: Trade & Agriculture Commission


Tim Smith is Chair of the Trade and Agriculture Commission which will shortly deliver its report to the Secretary of State.

The trade decisions the Government is making now will shape the future not just of British food and farming but the whole country.  The role of the Commission is to advise on the trade policies the Government should adopt to secure opportunities for UK farmers, while ensuring the sector remains competitive and that animal welfare and environmental standards in food production are not undermined.

Webinar 2.15pm - 2.45pm:  The new era under the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, and global opportunities for Scottish agriculture


Join the Secretary of State for Scotland, Rt Hon Alister Jack MP for a keynote address and Q&A with NFU Scotland’s President Andrew McCornick on the opportunities for Scottish agriculture under the new Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU.  This is a key opportunity for members to put questions directly to the UK Government on how farmers and crofters can grow Scotland’s trading prospects a land of food and drink.

The Rt Hon Alister Jack has been MP for Dumfries and Galloway since 2017, and Secretary of State for Scotland since 2019. He farms, mostly dairy, near Dumfries and during his career in business has founded tent hire and self-storage companies.

Webinar 12pm to 12.45pm: Election of President and Vice Presidents

The elections for NFU Scotland’s President and Vice President posts will be held.  Current Vice President Martin Kennedy will stand unchallenged for the position of President.  The four nominations for the two Vice Presidential posts are (in alphabetical order): Andrew Connon, Willie Harper, George Milne and Robin Traquair. 

Under the terms of the constitution, those elected to the position of Vice President will initially serve for two years before the post reverts to an annual election.

Members of NFU Scotland’s Council – a body made up of representatives from each of the Union’s 73 branches - will select the successful candidates.  Council members will cast the votes to determine who is elected.
