Insurance Sales Agent / NFU Scotland Group Secretary – Ingliston, Edinburgh

The Role

We are looking for a new Assistant Agent to join our Ingliston Agency. To ensure the Agency flourishes you will need to ensure a first-rate customer service. We are looking for a person who is has a flair for relationship building and generating new business as this agency is located in a high potential area with high net worth, farming and corporate customers to explore. This agency has a staff of ten people who have individual specialisms including a marketing specialist and claims manager respectively.


You will get the chance to work with an established loyal base of rural and farming members through the support of NFU Scotland, who are also based in the same building as the agency.  As you’ll find plenty of opportunity to build on a number of strong existing client relationships that continue to bring in new business. You will inspire your team to exceed expectations and retain key commercial and farming accounts, this means that having a team focused approach that display and work to your customer first strategy to business growth.


As an Agent, you’ll be your own boss, running an agency under NFU Mutual's name, selling our award-winning products and services. You’ll have the freedom to develop plans and strategies, recruit and develop a team and expand your ambitions. It’s a chance to grow a business with a full range of customers, from farmers to homeowners, commercial businesses to car owners.


This means you’ll need a combination of personal and professional qualities. You’ll be an excellent communicator, great with people from a wide range of backgrounds, with the ability to spot a sales opportunity and develop new business. You’ll be commercially sharp and open to innovations to continually improve your agency.


As well as being a strong and influential business leader, you’ll also be an inspirational and motivational manager to your team. Collaborative, positive and supportive, you’ll give them opportunities to develop their talents, while making sure they work to all relevant regulations and standards of compliance.


You’ll also play a major role in the farming community as your area’s NFU Scotland Group Secretary. NFU Scotland represent the voice of agriculture up to the highest levels. You’ll play a major role in this, championing local farmers’ interests, arranging local meetings and events, recruiting and retaining members and keeping them up to date on union policy. This will put you at the heart of the local rural community, giving you the chance to make the most of new business opportunities for your Agency. With the full backing of NFU Scotland, you’ll have access to expert advice and specialist support on everything from policy and increasing membership to marketing and media.


You’ll be joining an established business, so won’t need to make any up-front capital investment and as a self-employed Agent, your income will be incorporated within the business financials. As well as investment support, we’ll give you access to a full range of courses at our dedicated Training Academy, such as sales, business and finance planning, team recruitment and NFU Mutual products. We’ll also support you in gaining Chartered Institute of Insurers certification.


On target earnings for your first year will be £40k based on the current renewal income of the Agency.

We are looking for a new Senior Agent to join our Keith and Turriff Agency. To ensure the Agency flourishes you will need to ensure a first-rate customer service. We are looking for a person with excellent skills in networking and developing meaning relationships with the local community as this is very much an agency that has a strong and loyal customer base due to its fantastic local reputation. Working with an established, loyal base of rural and farming members as well as a highly supportive and active NFU Scotland branch in the agricultural market, you'll find plenty of opportunity to build on a number of strong existing client relationships that continue to bring in new business. Future Agent Programme - Scotland

The Role

We’re launching an exciting fast-track Future Agent Programme throughout the UK to provide the training, support and development you need to become an NFU Mutual Agent and farming representative. During the 12-month programme you will be employed by NFU Mutual / the relevant farming union and gain the necessary skills and experience to run your own NFU Mutual Agency business, along with a professional insurance qualification. Towards the end of the programme you’ll be able to apply to become a self-employed Agent, where you’ll develop strong relationships and business links with our members, selling NFU Mutual and the relevant farming union’s products and services.

With previous experience of sales you need to be highly motivated, with a desire to be your own boss by managing and leading a successful team. You’ll be an excellent communicator, have a flair for figures and a passion to grow and develop a business. You’ll have the ability to form excellent relationships with our customers and colleagues and be acceptable to relocation.

Initially you will be based in one of the following locations, however there is a requirement to be able to relocate to other areas of the UK, enabling you to successfully complete the 12 programme.

Downpatrick, N. Ireland.  Kilmarnock, Scotland.  Sedgefield, County Durham. Bury, Greater Manchester. Royston, Hertfordshire. Reading, Berkshire.  Thornbury, South Gloucestershire. Swansea, Wales.
