Clock Ticking on NVZ Slurry Storage Requirements

NFU Scotland is urging all livestock farmers within Scotland’s Nitrate Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) to ensure that they have the required slurry storage on their farm before the three-year exemption period for storage runs out on 1 January, 2012.

Union Meets Secretary of State as New Chapter of Dialogue Opens

An NFU Scotland delegation took encouragement from the UK Government's willingness to engage with Scotland on ongoing Common Agricultural Policy discussions following a meeting in Westminster today (Wednesday 30 march).  The group also left the meeting having had a positive discussion around the establishment of the supermarket adjudicator.

Calf Scheme Figures Good News for Beef Herd

NFU Scotland has welcomed confirmation that Scotland’s beef herd is on the rise following an increase in successful claims made to the Scottish Beef Calf Scheme (SBCS).   According to Scottish Government figures, approximately 422,500 calves were claimed in 2010 - around 16,500 more than in 2009.

Memorial To Women’s Land Army to be Sited in Moray

A memorial to commemorate the work undertaken by thousands of women during WWII is planned to be sited in Moray. The Land Army Memorial Scotland (LAMS) charitable trust has identified a site, kindly donated by The Crown Estate, on their Fochabers estate, on which to establish the memorial.

While many Scottish hill and upland farmers have now received lifeline support through the Less Favoured Areas Support Scheme, it has emerged that many of those still awaiting payment for the 2010 scheme may not have completed necessary paperwork, due to have been returned in October 2009.
