We have received a letter from Buckingham Palace conveying His Majesty The King’s appreciation for the vital contribution made by Scotland’s farmers and crofters.
The response followed a letter from President Andrew Connon expressing his thanks for His Majesty helping to pave the way for the removal of tariffs on Scotch Whisky exports during the Royal State Visit to the United States. In his reply, The King recognised the “invaluable contribution made by Scottish farmers and crofters to our economy, the stewardship of the countryside and the resilience of rural communities.”
The response also highlighted the close relationship between Scotland’s world-renowned whisky industry and the farmers and crofters whose expertise and dedication produce the high-quality grain on which the sector relies.
It stated:
“Their work plays a vital role in sustaining Scotland’s natural environment, supporting thriving rural communities, and preserving these landscapes and traditions for future generations.”
The letter also conveyed the King’s longstanding admiration for those who work tirelessly to produce food and other essential products while caring for the land and natural resources on which so much depends.
His Majesty asked for his sincere appreciation to be passed on to our members for all they do in support of Scotland’s farming and crofting communities, together with his very best wishes for the future.
President Andrew Connon said:
“It is very special to receive this recognition from His Majesty the King for the work carried out every day by farmers and crofters across Scotland.
“Our members produce high-quality food, care for the countryside and sustain rural communities, often in extremely challenging circumstances.
“I am delighted to pass His Majesty’s appreciation and best wishes on to our members. This message of thanks is for every farmer and crofter who continues to contribute so much to Scotland.”
