On Saturday 25 January Argyll and the Islands farming community will take part in a Tractor Rally to highlight the damage that the UK Government’s proposed changes to inheritance tax will do and the threat to the viability of family farms across the UK. It will also thank the public for its growing support in this matter.
The rally will start at the MACC Business Park, Campbeltown, Argyll, PA28 6NU. at 10am, they will follow a route from there into Campbeltown town centre. The tractors will park at the harbour car park from 10.45 to 11am and members of the public would be welcome to come and meet the farmers. The tractors will return to the MACC Business Park, where at 12pm, Brendan O’Hara MP will address the rally. Participants will have the opportunity to raise concerns about how changes to taxation will impact their businesses directly with their MP, and local councillors who are also attending. Family and friends are very welcome to join the rally at 12pm too when light refreshments will be served.
A charity cash collection will also be held on the day to raise funds for the Kintyre Foodbank. By giving to the local food bank, NFUS members are keen to demonstrate their support and solidarity with everyone facing hardship.
NFU Scotland would welcome all members and others involved with the farming sector in the area to participate and raise awareness of how these taxations proposals would impact their supply chain businesses. If you would like to take part please call the Campbeltown NFUS office (Tel: 01586 552428) in advance to register your interest and get a briefing on participation.
Similar rallies and events will be taking part across the whole of the UK at the same time in a show of unity and strength to demonstrate visual support for the #StopTheFamilyFarmTax campaign. These all are being led and supported by all four UK farming Unions – NFU Scotland, NFU, NFU Cymru and Ulster Farmers’ Union. It will show MPs and ministers clearly that agriculture across the whole of the UK is united in rejecting this awful policy – a policy we were never consulted on and promised would never happen.
