Ayrshire Farmers Promote Scottish Produce for Red Tractor Week
Farmers from Ayrshire will be taking to their local Lidl store this weekend to encourage shoppers to look for the Red Tractor logo when buying the fine Scottish produce available on their doorsteps.
The promotional event, held as part of Red Tractor Week, will see NFU Scotland members speaking to customers on Saturday 17 September at Lidl, Kilmarnock.
The Red Tractor logo certifies that food meets high standards, from farm to fork, and is displayed on many Scottish dairy, fruit, vegetable and meat products.
Graeme Kilpatrick, NFU Scotland’s Milk Committee, and Ayrshire dairy farmer, commented: “There has been a lot happening during September to promote the high quality Scottish produce available to consumers. Red Tractor Week ties in with our wider work with Scotland Food and Drink Fortnight, and Love Scotch Lamb campaign, to raise the profile of our food and drink.
“This event is part of a wider roadshow NFU Scotland has organised at supermarkets and farmers’ markets across the country in recent times. We will be encouraging shoppers to buy Scottish, support their farmers and our industry. Our produce is some of the best in the world and is available right on their doorsteps.
“Customers these days want quality – and that is what Scottish farmers produce and supply. In these difficult and uncertain times within the agricultural sector, that support means a lot.”
