Ayrshire Members Invited to Free Farm Security Event

NFU Scotland members from the Ayrshire region are invited to a free information day to provide them with key information to protect their property from theft.

The event, taking place at Garryhorn Farm, Maybole on Saturday 1 October, has been organised by NFU Scotland and Police Scotland, by permission of the Lynch family.

As well as hearing from the organisations involved about farm security measures, attendees will be able to chat to various agencies about their individual issues.

There will be workshops on reporting crime and preserving evidence; firearms licensing; crime issues around access such as livestock worrying and reducing the risk of theft, including cyber-crime and telephone scams.

The informal event will also welcome various other agencies to discuss issues such as community safety, fire prevention, fly tipping and working around electricity.

Jimmy Ireland, NFU Scotland’s Regional Chairman for Ayrshire, commented: “This event will give farmers the opportunity to receive valuable advice to ensure their property is safeguarded against the risk of theft.

“Our farms are laid out with the movement of livestock, machinery and storage of dangerous items for convenience, sadly this makes many vulnerable to opportunist thieves and other incidents.

“We look forward to welcoming farmers of all ages and their families along to what is sure to be an informative and useful day.”
