Five restaurants commit to putting locally-sourced lamb on their menus
Local restaurants in the Borders will be putting lamb on their menus this weekend as part of a national campaign and celebration to get more consumers eating Scotch Lamb.
Waiting staff from the six restaurants will be donning Scotch Lamb aprons and t-shirts and be promoting the tasty meat throughout the weekend. The restaurants will also be serving up Scotch Lamb dishes, and have all committed to having locally-sourced lamb on their menus going forward.
The event organised by NFU Scotland, ties in with Quality Meat Scotland’s (QMS) Love Scotch Lamb weekend over 5 and 6 September. The two-month long campaign is aimed at raising the profile of Scotch Lamb and encourage people to become ‘Lambassadors’ and help spread the word.
Those restaurants that will be promoting Scotch Lamb this weekend are: Burts in Melrose, The Green Tree in Peebles, The Townhouse in Melrose, The Gordon Arms Hotel in West Linton, Carfraemill Lodge at Lauder and the Auld Cross Keys in Denholm.
Regional Manager Kerry Barr said: “Many people don’t realise how diverse Scotch Lamb can be and how easy it is to cook, and by promoting dishes through these restaurants we hope that consumers will realise this and start to buy Scotch Lamb.
“The Scottish Borders has a huge population of sheep, larger than most other areas of Scotland and farmers are rightly so proud of what they produce and want to showcase this to consumers.
“It’s great that we have commitment from these restaurants that they will put locally-sourced lamb on their menus. There will be recipe cards and information available throughout Saturday and Sunday which members of the public can take away to make it easy for them to make tasty Scotch Lamb dishes at home and support Scottish farmers.”
