Candidates contesting for Presidential roles prepare for hustings events in January

The five candidates who will contest the positions of President and Vice President at the Union’s AGM in Glasgow on Friday 7 February 2025 are preparing to tour the country in January.

The two current Vice Presidents – Andrew Connon and Alasdair Macnab – will contest the position of President and the successful candidate will be elected to the post of President for a two-year term.  They will succeed Martin Kennedy who has held office for four years, the maximum term allowed under the Union’s constitution.

Three – Michael Davis, Duncan Macalister and Robert Neill - will contend for the two Vice Presidential posts.  Vice Presidents will also be elected for an initial two-year period before being eligible for re-election on an annual basis thereafter.

Hustings events, attended in person by all Presidential candidates, will take place in January in every region of Scotland.

NFU Scotland CEO John Davidson said: “Strong teamwork has always been central to NFU Scotland’s lobbying efforts.

“We have excellent candidates for the President and Vice-Presidential posts, and I encourage each and every member to take part in the forthcoming hustings events in January prior to feeding back to their Council members on who they believe is best suited to fill these influential roles when it comes to the vote on Friday 7 February.”

NFU Scotland members are invited to attend a Regional Husting event to hear from and quiz each candidate standing for the role of President or Vice President.  Below is a list of dates and venues:
