Dumfries and Galloway’s Next Generation of Farmers Invited to Clonhie Farm Open Day

NFU Scotland is inviting the next generation of farmers and those looking to take the next step in their agricultural careers to a special open day at Clonhie Farm, Penpont, this month.

The free event, taking place on Saturday 19 September, will bring together aspiring farmers, young people, training providers and industry representatives for a day focused on developing skills, sharing experiences and exploring the opportunities available within agriculture.

The Next Generation Open Day will include interactive sessions, livestock and machinery demonstrations, a farm tour and a panel discussion featuring members of the industry who will share their experiences and insights.

Information will also be available from training providers, while the event will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet others in the industry and build connections with people at different stages of their farming careers.

NFU Scotland Regional Manager for Dumfries and Galloway, John Cowan, said:
“Supporting the next generation is absolutely vital to the future of farming in Dumfries and Galloway.

“There is a huge amount of enthusiasm, talent and ambition among those coming into our industry, but it is important that people have the opportunity to develop their skills, build networks and understand what opportunities are available to them.

“This open day is about bringing people together in an informal and practical setting, giving them the chance to see different aspects of farming, hear from others in the industry and hopefully leave feeling inspired about their own future.

“Whether you are already working on a farm, considering a career in agriculture or looking to take on more responsibility within an existing business, I would encourage you to come along.”

The event will take place at Clonhie Farm, Penpont, DG3 4NB, from 9.45am until 3pm on Saturday 19 September. Lunch will be provided.

Places are free but attendees are asked to register in advance to allow catering arrangements to be made.
