Farmers All Set for ‘Love Scotch Lamb’ Weekend

Scottish sheep farmers are all set for “Love Scotch Lamb’ weekend (23 and 24 August), when they will be tempting Scottish shoppers with fresh, tasty Scotch lamb at 12 venues around the country.

This exciting new part of the annual campaign to promote Scotch Lamb, has been organised jointly by NFU Scotland with Quality Meat Scotland and the National Sheep Association.  It will see sheep farmers heading into town centres and supermarket stores to meet consumers and encourage them to sample top quality Scotch Lamb

As well as visiting many supermarkets, Scotch Lamb will feature in the cookery demonstration at Ayr Flower Show and several famous restaurants in the Borders - The Caddy Mann; Burts and The Auld Cross Keys - will have some spectacular lamb dishes on their menu.

Events will be held in Aberdeen (Saturday); Anstruther (Saturday); Ayr (Saturday and Sunday); Dalkeith (Saturday); Dumfries (Saturday); Galashiels (Sunday); Braehead by Glasgow (Sunday); Inverness (Sunday); Oban (Saturday); Perth (Sunday); Stranraer (Saturday); Tain (Saturday).

Adding a bit of glamour, Scotch Lamb fan, Ellie McKeating, who was crowned Miss Scotland in May 2014, will be joining farmers at the Dalkeith, Dumfries, Perth and Inverness events, as well as visiting some of the Borders restaurants to support the Love Scotch Lamb Weekend.

Aberfeldy Sheep farmer Martin Kennedy, who will be at the Morrisons Store in Perth on Sunday said:

“We are going to have dozens of Scottish sheep farmers around the country this weekend, talking to the public about what goes in to putting fresh, tasty Scotch lamb on their plates.

“We are justifiably proud of the lamb we produce in Scotland, and by tempting shoppers with a wee taste of this fantastic product, we hope to remind those who regularly buy lamb about what a fantastic, versatile meat it is.

“At the same time, there is a new generation of shoppers out there that we want to encourage to love Scotch lamb.”
