Annual charity event returns for its 7th year at Bridgend Park, Fettercairn
NFU Scotland North East region’s annual Joe Watson testimonial event returns this Saturday (18 June) at Fettercairn Showfield, East Bridgend Park, Fettercairn, by kind permission of Messrs. D.M. Carnegie.
The fundraising event, which is being hosted by Laurencekirk and Stonehaven-Banchory branches, is in memory of agricultural journalist Joe Watson.
There will be a charity stock judging and farm machinery valuation, followed by a raffle and auction to raise money for RSABI and Mearns & Coastal Healthy Living Network. Any donations of raffle and auction prizes are welcome. Food will also be served. Prizegiving and presentation of the Joe Watson Perpetual Trophy by the Watson family will take place at the close of the event. NFU Scotland President Martin Kennedy and Vice President Andrew Connon will both be participating at the event.
The testimonial starts at 5pm and will close by 9.30pm. Entry costs £10 per person, or £20 per family. In order to secure your place, please book directly via NFU Scotland on 0131 472 4000 where catering and hospitality arrangements will also be made. The deadline for registration is Friday 17 June 2022.
NFU Scotland’s North East Regional Manager, Lorna Paterson, said: “This year we are working with SAYFC Manager Janelle Anderson, and local Young Farmers clubs, to ensure that the event complements the Young Farmers’ Grampian Rally which is taking place at the same venue earlier that day.
“At our Joe Watson Testimonial evening we will be hosting a mock auction competition, primarily featuring some amazing vintage farm machinery kindly provided by Ian Bruce from Newlands Farm. Joe’s family members Mirren, Murdo, Fraser, and their partners will also join us to present the Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the auction”.
Local Laurencekirk-based NFU Mutual Agent and Group Secretary, Gill Carnegie, added: “I am indebted to local sponsors for so generously donating food, drink, and auction and raffle prizes for our event. We will be cooking burgers and sausages, provided by Charles McHardy butchers, and ably cooked by North East Vice Chair Bob Hay. These will be served alongside hot and cold drinks, generously sponsored by Clarence Murray Potato Growers and Farmers. Mackie’s of Rothienorman are supplying us with their delicious ice cream, which is being served with magnificent strawberries from Ross and Anna Mitchell at Castleton Farm, Laurencekirk.” Ends.
