Locally-Sourced Fine Scottish Produce the Focus of NFUS Highland Reception

For several years, NFU Scotland has used the Highland Show to say thank you to many of its hard-working members around the country.

It has also sought to provide an array of high-quality Scottish produce at its Royal Highland Show drinks reception, and 2017 is no different.

This year’s reception focusses on the quality of locally-sourced fine Scottish food and drink at the Show, securing everything from the double cream for the strawberries to the oatcakes for the cheese – an all from local businesses.

The drinks reception sees NFU Scotland’s regional boards, branch and committee chairmen, staff, Board of Directors and group secretaries gather as a thank you for the work they have carried out on behalf of fellow farmers and crofters over the past 12 months.

Those who supplied food and drink will also be attending.

NFU Scotland’s President Andrew McCornick commented: “Throughout the year at many NFU Scotland events we celebrate the provenance of the fine Scottish produce that is available in every corner of the country.

“Those who have donated food and drink for our reception are testament to the hard work and dedication that is put in by farmers across the country to produce such fine Scottish food and drink.

“We would encourage everyone to support our farmers and crofters by buying Scottish produce where possible, and enjoy the array of top quality food and drink on offer right on their doorstep.”

  • Suppliers for the drinks reception are:  Fyne Ales, Argyll & The Islands; Thistly Cross Cider, Lothians and Borders; Mull of Kintyre and Isle of Arran cheeses from First Milk; Orkney Cheddar, Orkney; Lockerbie Cheese, Dumfries and Galloway; Crisps from Mackie’s, East Central; strawberries from Craigies Farm, Lothians and Borders; New Ayrshire potatoes from J Crawford, Ayrshire; and Scotch pies and sausages from Boghall Butchers, Lothian and Borders; and double cream from Roan’s Dairies, Dumfries and Galloway.
  • Retailer Aldi has also supplied Scottish oatcakes, chutney and Orkney caramel biscuits.
