Next round of agricultural vehicle workshops to come to the Lothians, Lanark and Inverness

NFU Scotland is taking to the road once again to hold workshops focused on agricultural and vehicle transportation issues.

This is the latest round of workshops which have been held in the last 18 months in conjunction with Police Scotland and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Hundreds of NFU Scotland members have attended seven workshops so far and all have been oversubscribed.

The following events are to take place in the coming weeks:
•    Thursday 5 November 2015 - Bonnington Mains Farm, Wilkieston, Newbridge, EH27 8BB
•    Tuesday 1 December 2015 - Lanark Mart, Muirglen, Hyndford Road, Lanark ML11 9AX.
•    Tuesday 8 December 2015 – Dingwall Mart Humberston, Bailechaul Rd, Dingwall IV15 9TP

With legislation constantly changing, the workshops are the ideal opportunity for farmers, their employees, crofters and landowners to gain up-to-date knowledge on any changes that could affect them, as well as asking questions where appropriate.

Topics which have previously been discussed include some of the most common problems faced by DVSA and other bodies, which include driving licence issues, weights, transportation of dangerous goods and tachographs.

Jamie Smart, NFU Scotland’s Legal and Technical Committee Chairman, commented: “The popularity of these workshops are evident – every one we’ve held so far in the last 18 months have been oversubscribed, and it’s encouraging to see farmers and those within the industry taking a keen interest and making sure they are abreast of the latest changes that apply to them with regards to vehicles and transportation.

“Vehicle legislation is a topic that is complicated and can cause confusion amongst farmers and those that use agricultural vehicles. The workshops are the ideal opportunity for members to ask questions and find out more information about certain transportation issues that are legally important.

“Not everyone always complies with the law, some unknowingly, and these workshops will give them the skills and knowledge to comply with the law, therefore we encourage everyone to come along and participate.” Ends
