NFU Scotland Brings National Recruitment Day to the North East

Farmers, crofters and businesses across the North East are being invited to meet with NFU Scotland representatives as part of the Union’s National Recruitment Day, taking place on Tuesday 7 October.

While the initiative marks a nationwide push to grow membership and highlight the benefits of joining Scotland’s leading agricultural union, NFU Scotland is placing a strong focus on local engagement. In the North East, this will include appointments for Union representatives - Lorna Patterson, Regional Manager; Kevin Gilbert, Regional Chair; and Andrew Connon, President - to visit potential local members.

Kevin Gilbert, NFU Scotland’s Regional Chair for the North East said:

“We absolutely need all our farmers and the associated trade organisations to join NFUS and support our cause. We fight hard for all sectors across the industry and the wider rural community. The more members we have, the stronger and more meaningful our voice is. Without NFUS, our problems and challenges would be much greater and tougher.  This Recruitment Day gives us an opportunity to get face-to-face with our rural community, hear what’s needed, and show how NFU Scotland can support.”

With the continued backing of members and the hard work of all involved, the Union has already delivered meaningful wins for farming and crofting across the country this year. From securing £46 million in reinstated funds for agriculture, to influencing policy changes on livestock reduction, and achieving record engagement through campaigns like ShelfWatch and the wider NFU campaign #StopTheFamilyFarmTax – the first half of 2025 has been defined by action, collaboration and results.

NFU Scotland membership offers a wide range of benefits, including:

  • A powerful collective voice in lobbying for farm support, fair markets, and rural resilience.
  • Practical support through legal advice, training, and member helplines.
  • Access to exclusive savings – including the UK Fuels Card, which is helping members save up to 15p per litre on fuel at over 7,200 filling stations nationwide.

With major challenges ahead – from agricultural reform to tax changes – NFUS is urging farmers, crofters and rural businesses in the North East to join the Union and help secure a stronger voice for Scottish agriculture.  Find out more and sign up at joinnfus.org.uk
