Lucy McGillivray joins to lead on employment, education and skills
Lucy McGillivray has joined NFU Scotland to lead on issues around labour, employment, education, training and skills.
Prior to joining the Union, Lucy studied Law and Management at Robert Gordon University. She remains actively involved on the family farm at Glenlivet taking responsibility for livestock recording, passport applications, movement reporting and scheme applications. She has her own recently established Charolais herd and is currently Assistant Secretary of Keith Young Farmers Club.
Looking at her new role, Lucy said: “I am delighted to be joining NFU Scotland, as I’ve always had a passion for agriculture and so I’m excited to make a positive contribution to the Union.
“My remit includes education and skills, and I am looking forward to getting more people engaged with agriculture, whether it be land-based learning or full-time education. Closely linked to this are labour and employment issues, an area of growing importance and one that I am keen to make progress on.”
Commenting on Lucy’s appointment, NFU Scotland’s Head of Policy Gemma Cooper said: “I am really pleased to add Lucy to our talented team of policy specialists at NFUS. Lucy’s role will focus on all aspects of policy relating to education and skills, labour and employment. These are key policy issues that are directly impacting on NFUS members’ businesses.
Lucy will hit the ground running as we are operating in a very challenging policy landscape, and I know that Lucy will make use of her farming know how and excellent degree to make a difference for NFUS members.”

Lisa Hislop joins the Policy Team in the role of Policy Assistant
Lisa Hislop joined NFU Scotland this week, taking on the newly created role of Policy Assistant.
She will work across the Policy Team, providing assistance in formulating NFU Scotland policy on a range of key objectives that underpin the strategic goals of the organisation.
Prior to joining the Union Lisa worked for Street League as their Employer Engagement Executive, where she developed employer networks to create work opportunities for young people. She recently graduated with first class honours in International Business Management with French from Edinburgh Napier University. Coming from an agricultural background, in her spare time Lisa also helps out on the family farm.
Looking at her new role within NFU Scotland, Lisa said: “I am delighted to be joining NFU Scotland at what is an exciting and interesting time to be involved with Scottish agriculture. I am looking forward to working within the Policy Team to support the sustainability and profitability of the industry, while addressing the key challenges we face in the current climate.”
Commenting on Lisa’s appointment, NFU Scotland’s Head of Policy Gemma Cooper said: “I am really pleased to add Lisa to our well-respected team of policy experts. Her role is a brand-new position and an expansion of our existing team of lobbyists. As such it will boost our policy and lobbying capacity on behalf of our membership. Lisa has already shown us that she is incredibly talented, and I have no doubt that NFU Scotland members will see the benefits of Lisa’s appointment in very short order”.
