NFU Scotland Meeting with Home and Scotland Office Ministers in Aberdeenshire

Representatives from NFU Scotland met with UK Government Home Office Minister for Migration and Citizenship, Seema Malhotra MP and Scotland Office Minister, Kirsty McNeill, MP at Barra Castle Farm, Oldmeldrum, today (Tuesday 4 February), to discuss possible refinements to the Seasonal Agricultural Workers scheme.

Martin Kennedy, President NFU Scotland, said: 'It was great to have an open discussion with not only Scotland Office Minister Kirsty McNeill MP but also Home Office Minister, Seema Malhotra MP. We were delighted that they were in listening mode when it came to the specific challenges for Scotland, and both made a strong commitment to continue to engage over the coming months. Given the importance of the fruit and vegetable sector to Scotland’s economy, it is absolutely vital that some changes to the scheme are made to deliver long-term confidence to an industry that has great potential for growth.

Those in attendance at the meeting and photographed with the Ministers were host farmer David Stephen, NFU Scotland President Martin Kennedy, Perthshire farmer Lucy Grewar, Policy Advisor Lucy McGillivary and Regional Manager Lorna Paterson.
