NFU Scotland Welcomes £322 Million in BPS Payments Reaching Farm Businesses This Week

NFU Scotland has welcomed confirmation that around £322 million in Basic Payment Scheme and Greening support will begin arriving in the bank accounts of over 14,000 farm and crofting businesses this week - representing approximately 77% of the total budget.

This is a positive milestone, providing a vital injection of confidence and cashflow at a challenging time for the industry, with many businesses still contending with high input costs, extreme weather and market uncertainty.

NFU Scotland President Andrew Connon said:

“These payments will provide a much-needed cashflow boost for thousands of farm businesses across Scotland. We have consistently made the case to government that support must be delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible, particularly given the scale of pressure facing our industry.”

“We recognise the improvements made by the Rural Payments and Inspections Division (RPID) in processing payments this year and welcome the step forward this represents. Getting support out early is key to building confidence and helping businesses manage volatility.”

“Any farm or crofting business contacted by RPID for further information should respond as promptly as possible to avoid any unnecessary delays to remaining payments.”

Looking ahead, NFU Scotland will continue to focus on the future of agricultural policy and support in Scotland, ensuring farm businesses have the stability and long-term confidence they need to invest, adapt and thrive.
