Next week will see the NFU Scotland team heading for the Highlands and Islands to listen to farmers and crofters across the area about their priorities.
NFU Scotland’s Highlands and Islands Roadshow 2017 will cover 12 venues over five days from Monday 5 June, with President Andrew McCornick and Vice President Martin Kennedy tag-teaming the week to speak to as many people across the area as possible to gather views on crofting law reform, payment issues, species management and future support post-Brexit, amongst many other topics.
The roadshow, sponsored by Toyota and in partnership with Avonline Satellite Broadband, is open to members and non-members.
President Andrew McCornick and Vice President Martin Kennedy will be joined on the roadshow by NFU Scotland’s Crofting Policy Manager, Lucy Sumsion, and local group secretaries along the route. Mr McCornick will be attending venues on 8 June and 9 June and Mr Kennedy on 5 June, 6 June and 7 June.
The itinerary is:
• Monday 5 June: 11am to 2pm Lochaber Rural Complex, Fort William; 7.30pm Lochailort Inn
• Tuesday 6 June: 9am Clan Donald Centre, Sleat, Isle of Skye; 11.30am to 12.30pm Lochside Crafts Café, Dunvegan; 7.30pm Lochmaddy Hotel, North Uist
• Wednesday 7 June: 12pm to 3pm Public car park, Pier Road, Tarbert, Isle of Harris; and 7.30pm Caladh Inn, Stornoway
• Thursday 8 June: 11am to 1pm Tesco car park Ullapool; 7pm Durness Golf Club, Durness
• Friday 9 June: 12pm The Craggan Hotel, Skinnet, Talmine followed by croft walk at Melness Crofters Estate; and 7.30pm Lairg Community Centre.
President of NFU Scotland, Andrew McCornick commented: “In a matter of days we will be heading off on the tour of the Highlands and Islands, covering over 450 miles at 12 venues in five days to meet existing members and those interested to know more about what the Union does. This will be an invaluable opportunity for us to listen and engage with them on the many pressing issues facing Scottish crofters and farmers.
“We will be joined on the road by two of our membership discount partners, Toyota and Avonline Satellite Broadband, and their support is greatly appreciated. At each stop Avonline will be demonstrating its superfast broadband, allowing attendees to try up to 30Mbps internet for themselves.
