NFUS livestock roadshows to tour country from Dingwall to Stranraer in coming weeks

Livestock research, cross compliance and animal disease are amongst the topics to be discussed as NFU Scotland’s livestock roadshows to be held at 11 locations across the country in October and November.

The events, which start in Oban on 30 October and end in Dumfries on 23 November are open to NFU Scotland members and will feature a range of speakers, including representatives from NFU Scotland, Livestock Health Scotland (LHS), Scottish Government, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), Scottish Agricultural Wages Board and local vets.

NFU Scotland’s Livestock Committee Chairman Charlie Adam commented: “We are looking to establish the livestock roadshow as a regular fixture in the farming calendar. It is an ideal opportunity for farmers to come along and hear about the latest thinking in the livestock sector.

Nigel Miller of Livestock Health Scotland said: “These events will give farmers a better understanding of the ongoing work by Livestock Health Scotland. Currently, we are investigating how different diseases impact on the livestock sector. The aim is to lighten the disease burden in Scotland in the long term.”

Jo Conington from SRUC commented: “We have been working on our livestock research projects in conjunction NFU Scotland over the summer with a visit from the Livestock Committee.  These roadshows are an ideal platform for us to provide information on the research we are conducting on behalf of sheep and beef farmers in Scotland and communicate this to those in the sector.” Ends
