Tracey Roan Takes on Top Dairy Role at NFU Scotland

Tracey to take on policy and Scottish Dairy Hub duties.

NFU Scotland’s new Dairy Policy Manager is well-known industry figure Tracey Roan. Tracey will also take on responsibility for the Scottish Dairy Hub, a successful signposting service for Scotland’s dairy sector that, with Scottish Government support, has been running for almost nine years.

Tracey joined NFU Scotland in May 2022 as Regional Manager for Dumfries and Galloway. She farms with her husband, Steven, and their two children, milking 240 pedigree Holstein cows just outside Dalbeattie.

Tracey also appeared, alongside her family, on the BBC’s This Farming Life which led to various public speaking opportunities at events throughout Scotland.  She is a past winner of NFU Scotland’s Ambassador award which she collected at NFU Scotland’s AGM and annual dinner in 2020 and which recognised Tracey’s work in establishing the Dumfries and Galloway Dairy Women’s Network.

Discussing her new role, Tracey said: “I have always been passionate about the dairy sector, so I am very much looking forward to working with our dairy members and stakeholders through my work with NFU Scotland and through the Scottish Dairy Hub.  In taking on both roles, I hope to build on the valuable work of my predecessor Stuart Martin in driving forward the Scottish dairy sector.

“With huge natural advantages in producing high quality milk in Scotland, I aim to assist the sector in growing our output and value and realising our potential.”

NFU Scotland’s Head of Policy Team Gemma Cooper said: “I am very pleased to welcome Tracey to the policy team at NFUS. Tracey brings a wealth of experience to the role and will be well placed to support our dairy members on key issues.

“During her time as a regional manager for NFUS, Tracey has already shown that she has the drive and talent to take forward work on behalf of our dairy farmers. Importantly, Tracey will take over the operational role of the Scottish Dairy Hub. The Hub, which is funded by Scottish Government and operated by NFUS, offers a free impartial signposting service for the dairy sector in Scotland.”

The Scottish Dairy Hub has been supporting Scottish dairy farmers and the nation’s dairy sector since it was established in June 2014 as an initiative that stemmed from the Scottish Dairy Review Ambition 2025 report, commissioned by Scottish Government.

The Hub has gone on to handle thousands of enquiries from the dairy sector and continues to offer a free one-stop, confidential, information service to all dairy farmers and service providers.  By identifying the best sources of advice to improve dairy farm competitiveness, technical efficiency and sustainability, it acts as a signposting service connecting the dairy sector throughout Scotland.

Farmers can place their question to the Scottish Dairy Hub via the website: www.scottishdairyhub.org.uk or by email info@scottishdairyhub.org.uk .In addition, it can be contacted by phone on Mob: 07500 766083.  Scottish Dairy Hub is also on twitter: @scotdairyhub and Facebook: www.facebook.com/scottishdairyhub Recognising the working schedule of dairy farmers, it is more than happy to be contacted at any time, seven days a week.
