Application period extended but retention period remains the sameNFU Scotland is reminding hill farmers and crofters that, following a Union request, the deadline for applying to the Scottish Upland Sheep Support Scheme (SUSSS) has been extended to 30 November 2017.However, applicants must bear in mind that the retention period still starts from the 17 October 2017 and runs to 31st of March 2018. That means hoggs entered for this valuable scheme must be properly tagged and recorded by 17 October.Director of Policy, Jonnie Hall said: “Many applicants to the 2017 Scottish Upland Sheep Support Scheme (SUSSS) will be aware of the welcome extension to the application deadline to 30 November, announced by the Cabinet Secretary last month. “Fewer, however, might also appreciate that the retention period stays the same, and that will continue to run from 17 October 2017 to 31 March 2018. “It is very important for claimants to remember that the rules of the ewe hogg scheme essentially require claimed animals to be tagged and recorded before the start of the retention period on 17 October.“While the prolonged wet weather means workloads are still well behind, it is important to remind our hill farmers and crofters of the SUSSS rules to avoid any problems should they be subject to an official inspection.” Ends
