NFU Scotland’s new look Board of Directors for 2011/12 has been finalised.
At the Union’s AGM in St Andrews yesterday (Tuesday, 15 February), a new presidential team of Nigel Miller as President and Allan Bowie and John Picken as Vice Presidents were elected.
In addition to their election, a number of new appointments at Regional Board and commodity committee level saw several new faces at the Union’s first Board of Directors meeting of the year.
The new regional chairmen coming to the Board are Alastair Martin (Dumfries and Galloway), Kevan Harvey (Orkney and Shetland), Charlie Adam (North East) and John Semple (Argyll and the Islands).
New committee chairmen are Kenneth Campbell (Milk) and Andrew Moir (Combinable Crops)
NFU Scotland’s new President Nigel Miller, who chaired the first Board meeting before leaving to attend the NFU AGM and dinner in Birmingham said:
“There is a new team and some new faces in place for what will be a very important year for the Scottish farming industry. There are huge immediate challenges to many of those involved in primary production in Scotland in securing a fair return from the marketplace. At the same time, European discussions on fundamental changes to the way the Common Agricultural Policy supports our industry will begin in earnest.
“The Union’s board is a fantastic mix of experience and fresh faces and I look forward to working with them as we build on the great work that NFUS continues to do in representing our industry. That work starts this week when I will sit down with my Vice Presidents and Chief Executive to plot out our work programme for the coming months.
“Those who attended our AGM and dinner will have appreciated the buzz that exists around the Union and the great work that is taking place all the way from local branches and offices, through the regions and in head office. The new team to capture that enthusiasm is now in place and, as a board, we can’t wait to get stuck into the challenges ahead.”
