Willie Takes Over as Chairman of Forth & Clyde Region

NFU Scotland’s Forth & Clyde region has a new chairman as Tom French steps down from his post after five years.

Willie Harper, from Gryffewraes Farm, Bridge of Weir was appointed to the chairman’s role at the region’s AGM held in Stepps, near Glasgow last night (10 January).

Willie is a past President of Renfrewshire branch, and has served for several years on the Regional Board including as Vice Chairman.  Willie, a beef and sheep producer, is married to Mairi with two daughters.

The region has two Vice Chairmen.  Remaining in the position is Mark Donald, Rhynaclach, Port of Menteith, Stirling. Mr Donald, a member of Balfron and Menteith branch, is also chairman of NFU Scotland’s New Generation group.

Also elected as Vice Chairman of the region was Sandy Taylor, Burnbank, Adreonaig, Killin.  Sandy is a member of the Balquhidder and Killin branch.

The region’s long serving Chairman, Tom French, from Balgray, Crawfordjohn, Biggar has stepped down after five years in the role.  Tom is one of three farmers currently contesting for the position of Vice President at the Union’s forthcoming council meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on Tuesday 7 February.  The Union’s AGM, conference and annual dinner will be staged at the same venue the day before (Monday 6 February).
