Year of Scotland Food and Drink Celebrated at Union’s Evening Reception at RHS

An array of the finest Scottish produce will be showcased at NFU Scotland’s annual evening reception at the Royal Highland Show on Friday 19 June.

The occasion will celebrate the Year of Scotland Food and Drink 2015 and will see companies from across Scotland donate fresh, local food and drink for the evening.

The produce includes everything from fresh new Ayrshire potatoes, cheese and crisps to fresh strawberries and cider and beer.

The evening reception is an event to say thank you to the many hard working members, secretaries and staff who work day in, day out for Scottish farmers. It will see NFU Scotland’s regional board members, branch and committee chairmen, staff, Board of Directors and group secretaries gather for some great fare.

Those who supplied food and drink, as well as NFU Scotland affinity partners and representatives from the young farmers will also be attending.

NFU Scotland’s President Allan Bowie commented: “Farmers are more engaged than ever before in what happens to their produce beyond the farmgate and in this Year of Scotland Food and Drink, we are celebrating the great products we have right here on our doorstep. Those who have donated food and drink for our reception are testament to the hard work and dedication that is put in by farmers, processors and manufacturers across the country to produce such fine Scottish produce.

“We will have the opportunity to taste this fantastic produce at our evening reception and we need to continue to push that message into the wider domain.  Whether it be supermarket shelves, local retailers, farm shops, farmer’ markets or online; we need to encourage consumers to look for and enjoy the great Scottish produce they have readily available for them.”
