General Election 2024

This online hustings event took place Monday 24th June 2024. It provided a great opportunity for the 4 main political party's to showcase their commitments to Scottish farmers and crofters prior to the General Election which took place Thursday 4 July. 
 
It is a crucial time for our sector and this event was key to ensuring farmers and crofters from across Scotland had the chance to hear each party’s position in relation to agriculture and rural communities before the election. 
 

NFU Scotland’s manifesto set out five key asks that will be critical for the newly formed Labour Government to deliver on so that Scottish agricultural businesses are profitable and sustainable. We are calling on this current UK Government to:

  • Deliver increased, ring-fenced and multi-annual funding
  • Improve producer margins to increase food security
  • Provide better access to skilled workers
  • Protect domestic food production in future trade deals
  • Increase fiscal incentives
