NFU Scotland Policy Strategy
Scottish agriculture is at a crossroads. Farmers and crofters are facing rising costs, labour shortages, volatile markets, and increasingly extreme weather; all while aligning with emerging policy frameworks that reflect broader socio-economic and environmental goals.
Our
Policy Strategy sets out a clear and ambitious vision for a profitable, sustainable, and resilient future for our industry. It recognises the vital role that active farming and crofting play in producing high-quality food, tackling climate change, restoring nature, and supporting thriving rural communities.
But to thrive, our farmers and crofters need confidence, and that requires political and policy backing.
Our overarching Policy Strategy connects five inter-linked themes. We are developing detailed sub-strategies for each theme, which will be published here as they become available. The five themes are:
Our Policy Strategy also lays the groundwork for our Manifesto for the Scottish Parliament elections in May 2026, ensuring a consistent and coherent message to government, stakeholders and the public about what Scottish agriculture needs to succeed.
