On Saturday 25 January, NFU Scotland North East members will join others in the #StopTheFamilyFarmTax nationwide day of action by holding a Tractor Rally. This rally has been planned to highlight the damage that the UK Government’s proposed changes to inheritance tax will do and the threat to the viability of family farms across the UK. It will also thank the public for its growing support in this matter.
The rally will take place departing ANM, Thainstone Mart; Inverurie, AB51 5WU at 11am and travel on the A96 towards Aberdeen before turning at Bucksburn and returning to Marshalls Farm Shop, Inverurie, AB51 0XD for 12 noon. When parked, it is hoped participants will have the opportunity to raise concerns about the taxation changes directly with MPs and politicians. Currently, NFU Scotland has confirmation that Andrew Bowie MP and Seamus Logan MP will be attending the event.
All NFUS members are invited to take part but should liaise with Regional Manager, Lorna Paterson in advance to register their interest and get a briefing on participation (contact details are below). Tractors, lorry cabs, vans and other vehicles are all most welcome.
NFU Scotland has welcomed others involved with the farming sector in the area to participate and raise awareness of how these taxations proposals would impact their supply-chain businesses. Those wishing to attend should also contact Lorna Paterson prior to the event.
Similar rallies and events will be taking part across the whole of the UK at the same time in a show of unity and strength to demonstrate visual support for the #StopTheFamilyFarmTax campaign. These all are being led and supported by all four UK farming Unions – NFU Scotland, NFU, NFU Cymru and Ulster Farmers’ Union. It will show MPs and ministers clearly that agriculture across the whole of the UK is united in rejecting this awful policy – a policy we were never consulted on and promised would never happen.
