Perth Showcase for Scotch Lamb
Top tasting fare for Perth shoppers on Saturday 31 October
Shoppers out and about in Perth this Saturday (31 October) will be able to feast on tasty Scotch Lamb courtesy of local farmers.
The Perth High Street showcase is just one of a number of events held as part of the annual ‘Wham Bam Thank You Lamb’ campaign where farmers have taken the opportunity this autumn to promote fantastic Scotch Lamb to members of the public.
The lamb, reared locally at Auchterarder by farmer Jimmy Taylor, will be spit-roasted by Crieff-based caterers Gourlay and served up on Saturday by local NFUS members next to the Perth Theatre between 11.00am and 2.00pm.
Regional Chairman Roddy Kennedy, who keeps sheep near Aberfeldy, will be one of many farmers dishing up the tasty fare. He said: “Sheep farmers across the region are rightly proud of what they produce, and an event like this provides a great opportunity for us to speak to members of the public about the passion we have for putting tasty, quality food onto our nation’s tables.
“At this time of year Scotch Lamb is at its tastiest and most succulent. By taking to the streets, we want to tell shoppers a wee bit about sheep farming and, more importantly, encourage them to try some beautiful spit-roasted Scotch Lamb and support Scottish farmers by buying their produce.
“We have held similar events in the past and we always get a fantastic response from shoppers who really appreciate finding out more about food production. In what has been a difficult year, positive feedback from the public means a lot to farmers.”
