Public Welcomed to Open Day on North East Farm

Jackson family to open Boghead Farm to showcase lambing

A north east farm is giving people the chance to meet its farm animals and learn about farming at an open event later this month.

Organised by NFU Scotland’s North East region, Boghead Farm, Lumsden, owned and occupied by Thomas and Fiona Jackson, will be opening its gates on March 24.

As well as meeting the farmers, people can also meet others involved in the industry, those from the Royal Northern Countryside Initiative as well as local officers from Police Scotland.

The aim of the day is to showcase to everyone about what happens on farm and allow them to get involved and understand the processors behind farming in the North East of Scotland. It will allow them to learn about where their food comes from and what this entails.

Farmer Fiona Jackson of Boghead Farm commented: “We are really excited to be opening up the farm and welcoming the public to Lumsden later this month.

“We hope visitors will enjoy the farm tours and see sheep and lambs up close.

“There will be lots of other things to see and do including seeing our Aberdeen Angus cattle, and Clydesdale horse.

“Visitors will also be able to enjoy refreshments and purchase photos of farming scenes. We will be raising money on the day for Scottish Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) and any donations go toward this worthwhile charity that has helped so many people in this region, and across Scotland.”

Danny Skinner, Huntly-Insch Branch Chairman commented: “NFU Scotland is delighted to be supporting Thomas and Fiona in hosting this special day at Boghead farm.

“We hope the public will ‘flock’ to the event and we can guarantee they will have a fantastic time.

“Thomas and Fiona take huge care in tending to their animals and are keen that the public get an opportunity to share in their working day.

“We are pleased that Police Scotland is supporting the event, and they will be explaining to the visitors, the importance of keeping dogs on leads when out enjoying the countryside. We look forward to meeting lots of new people on the day.”
